Kappa Delta
Kappa Delta Sorority’s support of Children’s Hospital Foundation dates back to 1921, when the original Children’s Hospital in Richmond, VA was incorporated. The sorority became interested in the work being done in their founding state by Dr. William Tate Graham, a pioneer in the field known for treating polio victims.
Beginning with an initial pledge of $1,200 to support two patient beds, Kappa Delta’s commitment to Children’s Hospital Foundation over the years has never wavered. The sorority’s monetary and tangible gifts have totaled more than $2.2 million. Contributions have gone to develop a motion clinic, purchase hospital equipment, medical braces and neurosurgical instruments, provide playground equipment and purchase patient transport vans.
Chapters and Alumnae Associations from a 3 state area sponsor the Hospital’s annual Halloween and Easter parties, assist with the Teddy Bear Run, and participate in the annual Kappa Delta Tour Day held every November. Nearly 225 alumnae and collegians attended the Kappa Delta Tour Day in 2010 (pictured above) from: Lynchburg College, Longwood University, William & Mary, UNC Pembroke, Queens University of Charlotte, High Point University, the Richmond Alumnae Association and the Greater Fairfax & Loudoun County Alumnae Association.
