Short Track Showdown

For the first time in the event’s four-year history, Denny Hamlin won his Short Track Showdown on April 28 at Richmond International Raceway. The charity race supports local nonprofits including Children’s Hospital Foundation through the Denny Hamlin Foundation.

Electing to start in the back of the field to let the spotlight shine on his fellow drivers, Denny worked his way up during the 75-lap event and edged into first position during the final lap to take the victory. In addition to Denny, the charity race featured many well known NASCAR celebrities, including Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, Michael Waltrip, Joey Logano, Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne and others.

In May 2009, the Denny Hamlin Foundation made a $20,000 gift to Children’s Hospital Foundation to support the construction of the main physical therapy gym at Children’s Hospital of Richmond’s (CHoR) new Bon Air Therapy Center. The following year, the Denny Hamlin Foundation made an additional donation of $10,000 to purchase equipment for the gym. This year, funds will be used to support cystic fibrosis treatment at CHoR.
