All men after the age of 50 should have a yearly digital rectal exam to check for prostate cancer during their overall health examination.
Warning signs:
- The need to urinate frequently, especially at night
- Difficulty starting urination or holding back urine; inability to urinate
- Weak or interrupted flow of urine
- Painful or burning urination
- Blood in the urine
- Painful ejaculation
- Continuing pain in the lower back, hips or upper thighs
